Music icon and multiple Grammy award-winning music producer David Foster is returning to Calgary on Sept. 27, 2014, the location that served as inspiration for his legendary 1988 Winter Olympic Games theme song, “Can’t you feel it?”
In partnership with WestJet, the David Foster Miracle Gala and Concert will take place in an elegant and intimate setting within a WestJet hangar on the WestJet campus. Each year the gala helps to raise funds for the David Foster Foundation, which was started in 1986 to support the non-medical expenses for families of children undergoing lifesaving organ transplants and to raise awareness on the importance of organ donor registration throughout Canada.
“I am excited to announce that we’re returning to Calgary for our annual fundraising gala,” says Mike Ravenhill, CEO Of the David Foster Foundation. “The Gala was last held in Calgary in 2007, so we are happy to be back knowing that David has deep roots within the community, both as a result of his work writing the theme for the 1988 Olympic Winter Games and the Foundation’s support of non-medical expenses of families requiring pediatric transplant care throughout southern Alberta.”
The David Foster Foundation has a goal to raise $30M by their 30th anniversary in 2017, and last year raised nearly $4 M during a star-studded evening in Toronto, ON, featuring performances by Andrea Bocelli, Earth, Wind & Fire, and The Tenors.
Foster will be joined by celebrity guests that will be announced over the next few months. Each year, Foster reaches out to his international network of talented friends to create an unforgettable evening of entertainment and help him raise funds and awareness for families waiting for organ transplants.
“We are a proud partner of the David Foster Foundation and are thrilled to host what will be one of the most memorable events in Calgary,” says Gregg Saretsky, WestJet President and CEO. “This will be a star-studded night in a unique, behind-the-scenes setting benefitting hundreds of families across Canada and we can’t wait to welcome our guests.”
Tables of ten for the gala start at $15,000, with the premium tables selling at $25,000. Tables are available for purchase through the Foundation office. Since 1986, the David Foster Foundation has assisted more than 850 Canadian families with children in need of major organ transplants and provided millions of dollars in direct family support. In 2012, there were 3,404 patients waiting for organ transplants and only 1,168 patients who received transplants. During that time, 161 patients died while waiting for an organ. The Foundation’s financial commitment to families ranges from an average of $10,000 per year up to $100,000.
Sponsorships are the cornerstone of the Foundation Gala’s and once again community minded businesses including Boston Pizza and Integrated Planning & Solutions have joined WestJet to lead the way in supporting the foundation’s Miracle Gala and Concert in Calgary.
“We are thrilled to announce that Boston Pizza has once again stepped up to be a major sponsor of our Gala,” says Foster. “They have given back to the community for 50 years and have been strong supporters of our foundation. Without question, they understand what it means to give back to their community and without the generous support of companies like Boston Pizza, Integrated Planning & Solutions and WestJet, the foundation would not be able to provide the financial support to the families and children needing major organ transplants”.
