Canadian moving company AMJ Campbell is donating $250,000 and adding decals to many of their trucks across the country with the David Foster Foundation’s Be A Donor, Save A Life tagline, helping to raise awareness of the importance of organ donation and the work of the Foundation.

With operations in 27 cities across Canada, AMJ Campbell has the visual cross-country reach to build awareness of the importance of organ donation. Be A Donor, Save A Life decals will be added to the fleet over the next several months as trucks are due to be re-decaled, with a number of trucks in the Greater Toronto area already having undergone the transformation.

“Creating these moving billboards is unbelievably valuable for us,” says Mike Ravenhill, CEO of the David Foster Foundation. “When AMJ Campbell helps families transition to new homes, whether they’re moving within a city or across Canada, a visual reminder for the importance of organ donation will move with them. Doing this, along with making a financial donation, will go a long way in supporting the national work of The David Foster Foundation.

The financial contribution to the David Foster Foundation will support the non-medical expenses of families with children undergoing lifesaving organ transplants. On average, the minimum cost to support one family is $10,000 per year and can range up to $100,000, depending on the transplant process and the distance between the patient’s home town and the closest pediatric transplant hospital.

Since 1986, the David Foster Foundation has assisted more than 850 Canadian families with children in need of major organ transplants and provided millions of dollars in direct family support. Despite these efforts, 346 Canadians died in 2012 while waiting for a donor organ. There are 4,529 people are on the waiting list for an organ transplant. At the annual fundraising gala in Toronto, ON in December 2013, David Foster announced that the Foundation would set in motion a campaign to raise $30M by their 30th anniversary in 2017. Currently, the Foundation raises an average of $3 to 5M annually through major gifts and annual giving.

“AMJ is proud to be a national partner of the David Foster Foundation,” says Bruce Bowser, president and CEO. “Helping create awareness around organ donation and supporting families during such a difficult time is a privilege.”

AMJ Campbell joins other national partners of the David Foster Foundation including Toronto law firm Aird & Berlis, LLP; airline partners including WestJet and Hope Air; TELUS; Schnitzer; and the Oak Bay Beach Hotel in Victoria, BC. Many of these partnerships are long-term, with unique aspects to their support and funding models similar to AMJ Campbell.
