DeerFields Clinic has joined the David Foster Foundation (DFF) as a national partner and provided $250,000 to support the non-medical expenses of families with children undergoing life-saving pediatric organ transplants.

“The David Foster Foundation has assisted families with children waiting for organ transplants across Canada for more than 26 years, and the support of organizations like DeerFields Clinic will help us reach our $30 million legacy goal for our 30th anniversary and help many families for years to come,” says Michael Ravenhill, CEO of the David Foster Foundation.

As a national partner, DeerFields Clinic made a commitment to donate $250,000 to the DFF. The Foundation helps to support the non-medical expenses of 150 to 200 Canadian families annually who have children that are undergoing life-saving pediatric organ transplants, with their financial commitment to families ranges from an average of $10,000 per year up to $100,000.

“Like minded in making a difference, DeerFields Clinic is committed to inspire and empower people to achieve optimal health and vitality through delivering the most advanced preventive care and integrative wellness solutions,” says James Wilson, president and CEO of DeerFields Clinic. “DeerFields Clinic shares the values of the David Foster Foundation with its $250,000 donation supporting organ transplant awareness.”

DeerFields Clinic is located 30 minutes north of Toronto, ON and provides patients with an ideal setting to adopt and sustain healthy lifestyle rituals that are central to healthy aging. The expert and compassionate care of the clinic team combined with the world-class facilities of the property provides a unique offering for individuals and corporate wellness retreats.

In Ontario, there are currently 26 children (up to age 17) waiting for organ transplants, with 1,535 patients on the wait list overall. According to Trillium Gift of Life, Ontario’s organ and tissue transplant authority, most patients are on the wait list for kidney, liver, lung and heart transplants.

Since its inception, the DFF has assisted more than 1,000 families across the country, helping to support expenses during one of the most difficult times in their lives. The Foundation covers bills for groceries, gas, rent, and even mortgages, as many families are often required to travel to pediatric transplant hospitals in major urban centres away from their homes.

“Research has shown that the financial stress on top of the emotional stress during the wait time for transplants can lead to broken families,” says Ravenhill. “Our goal is to keep families strong and together by relieving as much of the financial pressure as possible.”

Fundraising is done through national partnerships like DeerFields Clinic, direct donations and the Foundation’s annual Miracle Gala. This past September, DFF raised $8.2M during a star-studded evening in Calgary, AB, which featured performances by David Foster, Steven Tyler, Kenny “Babyface” Edmonds, Jennifer Hudson, Jackie Evancho, and Sinbad. The fundraising event was presented by TELUS and in partnership with WestJet, who hosted to more than 800 guests within their hangar on Calgary’s WestJet campus.
